as bioRA was sharing the spoils of mr lim's old 'new scientist' (hahaha i laugh at the purely coincidental juxtaposition of ideas hahaha) issues, i picked one which had its cover boldly proclaiming 'english: why the language we know is vanishing fast', with the impression that it would make for good reading - it probably is. naturally, when you browse through articles, certain lines tend to jump out at you, and here's one such line:

'the half-life of irregular verbs is proportional to the square root of their frequency.'

...really, why am i not surprised.

O:

haha next time we must totally learn how to combine chem, math, statistics and linguistics, all into one Stunning Realization. just for the fun of it, maybe we could try adding in bio and phys and astro (see stacey you have gotten to me) as well, hahaha. (:

who knows, maybe it might work out. D:

things have come round full circle. :D i am Glad and above all, i am Thankful. (: (i think capitalizing important words is Cool, except that it's a little ungrammatical and defies punctuation rules - but okay, Whatever.)

meanwhile, timmy has been most yummy. :D by timmy, i naturally mean timmy the tiramisu.

am getting so excited for everything! ICYL 08 (do support if you're from rgs and sign up, or alternatively buy flowers / helium balloons from us during teachers' day!), choir & pb stuff next year...it looks to be busy but somehow there's just this little thing that's going whoopdeeedoo inside me. (: except i just realized that i have SS PT & frankenstein annotations to (sort of start and) finish, plus math & mep to revise for. D: but ah, not going to worry over those stuff excessively for now. this kind of mentality is a Must, hahaha. :D

above all, i guess i'm just very, very, infinitely thankful that so many people have decided to put their trust in me and given me so many possibilities, opened so many more doors for me - i'll remember that, & i won't let y'all down! and mhmm, to all these people who have had so much belief in me, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. (:

i want to go listen to murray perahia! why are the tickets so expensive. ): i also want to read ah! oh, and i still find it mildly funny + exciting + amusing that nsc's airing on thursday, heeheehee. i wish stacey would stop her one-sided, biased propaganda though.

nevertheless, i am still Glad and Thankful. (:

it's nice to be back! :D at any rate, it is immensely torturous to suffer from self-doubt - goodness knows why i fell into that - but otherwise michelle is up and ready to go again! interestingly, i came to my Profound Realization while praccing piano, hahaha.

well whatever it is, it's really good to be out of the dark and into the light. and yes, to the people who gave me so much support, encouragement and love, thank you. i am infinitely grateful. (:

the breather helped too, hahaha. got more books (even though i obviously don't have the time to read them, irritating :E) - rainer maria rilke's 'letters on life' + some bio book about danio rerio (think zebrafish hahaha), guinea pigs and the like. :D was going to get edna st. vincent millay, but couldn't decide between 2 editions, and so decided to get back to it another time. :/ (somehow, those little biography excerpts made her sound a bit like george sand. D:) still no comprehensive collection of seamus heaney though - should have gotten that copy in ireland, rawrgh. ):

on a separate note, i like modern library editions! in particular, i love the paper they use, hahaha. :D

on yet another note, i now have the complete prokofiev concertos! plus it's ashkenazy on piano zomgosh. yay me! :D

finally, i am so glad that my piano lesson got brought forward haha. (: means i can watch table tennis women's team finals, whoopee! :D go singapore, do us proud! ♥

okay, excessive spammage of smiley faces and the like, but whatever, that's most like me anyway, haha. :D

for starters, singapore got through to the women's team table tennis finals. (: first olympic medal since independence, woohoo! :D otherwise, watching the game in school was most exciting - all the cheering & random shouts / screams made for a good atmosphere, haha.

it was nice to randomly leaf through msloo's score library too, yay. :D plus bel canto 'o6 memories and all that jazz! similarly, it was nice randomly praccing in the cello room before the rest of appassionata came along haha - it somehow reminded me of wells / purcell again. i like that feeling. (:

otherwise, i think it might be time for me to go away for a while. i'm searching for my (figurative) long-lost best friend, haha! so well, if i don't appear online or anything, please try and understand, haha. :D and yes, i'm randomly adapting a quote, but well, if you find any bit of my confidence (or even arrogance, i admit, haha) from last time, it would be nice if you passed it back to me, yes. :D i need it rather urgently, haha. xD

till then, have a good time ahead everyone. (: (& hopefully singapore will rewrite history most brilliantly by sunday. :D)

dearest bloggie,

the next time michelle plays a game of softball, kindly remind her to be smarter about things and not crazily dive for balls or do rubbish things of that sort - her thumb does not appreciate rough treatment, apparently, and is rebelling most irritatingly. above all, do remind her to take proper care of her fingers.

love,
michelle.

p.s. i sincerely do hope everything turns out okay though. D:

rawrgh charmaine is giving me a whole new bout of imcb withdrawal. :E well, as much as there was the coordinator who was inordinately Angsty and all, i still miss the place. :/ the rolly-polly thing in the playground, the fantastic cheesecake (wins everything else hands down), the 2-hour lunch breaks...and maybe even the zebrafish, i guess - they were lovely things indeed. okay, it seems that i was only attached to the non-attachment bits of the (uh) attachment, but really, all the labwork was equally amusing / enlightening haha. (: i mean, things like dechorionating zebrafish embryos (to all those dreadful, disgusting, disquieting murderers, i rawr at you) - not stuff you'd do every day, yes? hm actually some bits were quite similar to the imb visit last time (speaking of which, stacey: where is taddy & how is he?!), what with all the mutations and all - think cyclopic zebrafish and two-headed tadpolees - but i guess each was unique in its own right, haha.

and oh, it was a nice realization on my part that making mistakes in dilutions isn't that bad, or that rare, really. now i have ammunition against our smp undergrad, ha, ha, ha. (:

plus, more courage during the presentations this time! :D even though the prof looked a little disdainful and all, i guess it's ok - learning experience anyhow, and a good one at that. :D

and ahhh all our random 'let us do homework!' sessions, our mini tour around biopolis (+ all our 'hahaha we look like tourists' photo stops), our misfortunes with the imcb shuttle buses (i quote: 'uh-oh, where are we?!') and our brilliant day2 lunch-hour adventure!

pfft we should go back next year haha! but anyway, mich/jiahui, when's our next imcb cheesecake trip going to be? xD

there will be photos, i think. :D and uh, i seem to have an inability to complete my wales+ireland post, cry cry cry. i hate 13th september clashes. :E my nose thinks it's funny to go all runny and watery, but i don't think so. O: i still have chinese PT rawrgh! but i'm going to get books from borders this saturday! :D

i am starting to get incoherent, therefore i will stop. (:

3 happy things today! :D
(until a more inspired way of titling posts / writing them strikes me, people will have to make do with my short & sketchy enumerated-list posts. it somehow reminds me of instant maggi mee, but whatever.)

1/ when some things like this one come around uh, i really don't know what to say. O: ohwell, at least it's good, so yay. (:

2/ busking, busking, busking! i love batchmates & our blend & our togetherness! plus i felt more like myself today, so yay x2. (:

3/ bio was decidedly Entertaining, lit was so much more conducive in the ava room, english was more productive - wrote more than a paragraph during lesson time, finally. and! physics data analysis problems solved. yay x3. (:

in addition, imcb attachment starts tomorrow! -grins. :D i am tempted to put yay x4 but that would be overdoing it, plus my title said specifically '3 happy things today'. but it isn't a happy thing today per se, since it happens tomorrow...okay will not be rubbishy and go crazy over a minute detail like that.

actually y'know what, i don't even know why i'm so high now. grawrgh (O: weird spelling / word) the holiday mood that imcb attachments put people in - which would have been nice if not for the fact that i have a gazillion PTs and stuff to do, sigh.

but since this is a happy post and nothing can & will spoil this happy mood of mine, it should & will therefore end with a 'yay' + a smiley face. here goes:-

YAY. (:

(edit: chinwei - thanks for the disc! very therapeutic & soothing, hahaha. :D)

y'know, at times like these, i'm beyond glad (hurhur, try at subliminity eh?) that i took lit. (: it's so, so emotionally satisfying to write about frankenstein, knowing that on the one hand you're exploring issues so deep and so complex, and yet on the other hand also in the full realization that your own words will never do the novel, nor mary shelley, deserved justice. (okay fine, so maybe the second part isn't very emotionally satisfying, but nevertheless i am still in awe.) i wholeheartedly concur with people like chinwei and tiffany: the language is eloquent, poetic and so befitting of the subject matter. but because i am starting to sound like someone who thinks she knows a lot but in fact really doesn't (which also means that i need to start examining the book - or should i say the novel - ten million times more closely), i think it would be good for me to stop there. :D

actually, i think it would have been nice if i knew more about the industrial revolution, the whole science/art thing. it would have given me an even broader perspective from which to look at frankenstein, haha. but that having been said, i still like chem+bio though, phys if not for the fact that the data analysis exercises are so, scarily, hard. D:

on another hand, i need more music - specifically, i need (like any other lovely RGSChoir girl) choir. D: nevertheless, i'm glad for my repertoire currently; now only to mastering it!

okay, back to frankenstein. if my life was ideal i would have all the time to read my entire backlog of books, and all the time to sort out my (puny but whatever) cd collection, plus listen to music / prac piano / sing!

but it's okay, i'll pull through till i get there. (:

important lessons today:-

1/ never leave things to the last-minute, and always remember what day / date it is today. no thanks to my zero calendar sense, i missed the closing date for foyle. ): to think i was editing till midnight yesterday - and that i most conveniently forgot that today's 1st august, not 31st july. plus there was the time difference that i could have exploited, argh.

2/ my little problems are nothing, compared to everyone else's.

3/ i need to be more thick-skinned, and maybe have more faith in myself.

4/ people are probably not so harsh as i imagine them to be.

5/ i need to remember what is important to me. & not to get swayed by other things that come along the way, no matter how brilliant / lucrative they may seem.

aiyeee yuck so disgustingly emo. ): but i am very thankful for optimism and hope, no matter how foolish. :D

and haha, i love this quote:-
"Aerodynamically, the bumblebee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn’t know that so it goes on flying anyway." (Mary Kay Ash)

indeed.

lives, writes, sings, plays the piano, and attempts to sound intellectual at times (conclusion: fails rather miserably).

loves music (almost strictly classical, hurhur & inclusive of faziolis!), literature (& also the sciences - no they are not in conflict), making hopelessly lame puns, laughter, white/milk chocolate, cheesecake, the world & the people in it. list not exhaustive, by the way.

wants the world to be filled with peace, joy and love, and also wants (perhaps a little more selfishly) to be happy, plus lead a life of purpose. that would be more than enough. (:

oh, and she likes embarking on her own 'free hugs!' campaigns after exams and the like; not really sure why. D: (at any rate, you can tell that she's random enough.)

loves you!♥

very plain, she knows; but this is probably herself in its entirety - nothing more than a compilation of perhaps-boring-to-you little things (and the occasional Important Event), but also nothing less than all the brilliant memories which constitutes her life, and perhaps yours.

also interpreted as an inability to express with other things but words (nothing more, nothing less!), although even words sometimes won't do enough. but she does like orange.

v2.0 (230208): maybe solid grey isn't that fantastic after all. but wordy is good, all the same. she's weird, she knows.

ver. i-pretend-that-it-is-3.0-when-i-know-it-is-not (070608): i am boring, take that. (:

v4.0 (200908): got bored, so cut down on the quasi-fanciful stuff even more. perfectly plain now, though somehow the background still doesn't work on safari / google chrome. ):
